FAQ

  • If you have a cello already, that’s fine. However, I recommend The Violin Shop in Encinitas. They have the best cellos in the area and a rent-to-own program. You’ll need to schedulle an appt.

  • 60 minutes. For a beginner, we’ll do scales, two pieces of music, technique work, sight-reading, music theory, rhythm workbook and exercises with a metronome. That’s a lot of stuff!

  • Awesome, I love helping adults learn music. It seems like most of my adults practice 30 minutes a day most days of the week. If you can commit to that, you’ll see regular progress.

  • I use my own comprehensive cello method, Cellosophy. Cellosophy is used by cello teachers around the country.

Cellosophy eventually includes the Popper Etudes, which I co-edited with my teacher (University of Michigan, The Juilliard School).

I now teach a year-long course to professionals across the world on those etudes.

  • Yes. My rates are discounted for each half hour beyond the normal hour.

  • Sure thing. Click Here.

  • I’m uniquely qualified to teach the cello. I co-edited a 70-page advanced technique book (the Popper Etudes) with my teacher, who is now on faculty at the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School and is the most applied-to cello teacher in the US. We did almost 20 drafts of that book, discussing pedagogy at the highest level.

With that insight, I backwards-engineered my own 15-volume cello method which is so successful that teachers across the country use it. I’ve taught using my method for over 15,000 hours.

The last time one individual made a method anywhere close to this comprehensive, it was the 1950’s - the Suzuki Method. It was only 10 volumes, didn’t include note-reading, composition, improvisation, lead sheets, videos, and didn’t include music written after 1890 (except brief studies by Suzuki himself).

Now I’ve released a year-long online course on those Popper Etudes. The first two cohorts that I accepted include conservatory-trained professionals and a college professor. All of them have started implementing my ideas in their practice and with their own students and they’ve all had dramatic results.

And last, I’m a performer at the highest level. I specialize in performing the most difficult new works of classical music - I’m likely the first person in the world to have taught many of those difficult works to my own students.
