I COMPOSE MUSIC
I've written and recorded documentary music, a cello concerto, a 38-minute cello quintet, cello duos, hours of solo cello music, and two duos for flute&bassoon.
AND PUBLISH MUSIC
Like an edition of the Popper Etudes co-edited with Richard Aaron (University of Michigan, the Juilliard School).
And a new edition of the Franchomme Etudes with second cello accompaniment.
And a comprehensive Rhythm Workbook for any instrument by my mother, Kathy Bundock Moore.
INCLUDING MY OWN ARRANGEMENTS
Like music by System of a Down for 5 cellos and 8 cellos.
And Single-Cello Accompaniments for standard cello music like The Swan and Allegro Appassionato that used to need a piano to accompany.
And educational materials like Bartok's Mikrokosmos as a sight-reading volume for two cellos.
AND COMPOSITIONS
Like my 38-minute work for five cellos, Soliloquy.
And my Cello Concerto for an advanced high school cellist to play with his/her own orchestra.
And four Cello Duos written with Martin Torch-Ishii.
I ALSO DEVELOPED A COMPREHENSIVE CELLO METHOD
So... I kind of Kickstarted a cello method with 94 backers(?!)
Volume 1 is out and is used by cello teachers across the country.
Including the 1300+ music theory problems and a scales compendium, it's more than 100 pages long and includes music from Hildegard von Bingen (a 12th-century nun) all the way up to a new piece I commissioned.
Volumes 2 & 3 are in their final stages. I'm working with students through my Volume 10 right now so there will be many, many volumes in the future.
I TEACH CELLO IN SAN DIEGO
I teach in my 18-foot loft in Hillcrest.
I also teach theory & composition lessons.
My cello studio is capped at 24 students. I currently have 23.
& ONLINE
And have used Skype (now Zoom) since 2013 with students as young as 6. My entire studio was remote for almost two years during the pandemic. I still teach cello lessons to students in Boston, Chicago, DC, SF, Napa, and San Diego.
AND I MAKE COURSES, TOO
I’m officially launching the Proper Popper Practice Project to a select group of students.
It’s a year-long online course designed to get you through Richard Aaron’s edition of all 40 Popper Etudes in one year.
I’m not going to try to change your technique… I’m going use these etudes to turn you into a crazy-efficient practice machine.
If you’ve played at least a couple of concertos and want to supercharge your practice, click below to start the application process.
